Forty-five local contractors participated in the first-ever Fortis Belize Contractor Safety Training on May 18, 2023. All persons contracted to work on Fortis Belize industrial projects are required to attend and complete this training.

FBL Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager Albert Roches led the training. HSE Officer Inar Cayetano, HSE Technician Oscar Mai, Power Plant Specialist Howard Cabral, Operations Supervisor Henry Linares, Procurement Officer Francis Vasquez and Supervisor of Administrative Services Shantel Leslie delivered key presentations providing contractors with an overview of FBL operations, safety policies, and operational expectations. The program was designed to ensure that anyone working on behalf of FBL understands the procedures and workplace protocols for working safely on company job sites and projects.

The training addressed site inspections and observations, emergency preparedness and response, fire safety, reporting incidents, personal protective equipment, risk management, environmental compliance, protection of wildlife, COVID-19 protocols, and more.

Vice President of Operations Jose Riveroll said, "Our priority at Fortis Belize is always health and safety, particularly the health and safety of our employees, business partners and contractors, the community, and the protection of wildlife and our environment. For this reason, we have aligned our operations with international best practices and comply with OHSA'S 18001 Occupational Health and Safety and ISO 14001 Environmental Standards."

Mr. Riveroll continued, "I want to thank Albert and the team for delivering a successful workshop and our participants for their time and commitment. We are as passionate about safety as we are about delivering clean energy, and we are pleased to partner with the community in this way, sharing knowledge and best practices with local contractors and the network of professionals in our industry that we work alongside daily."

All independent contractors working on Fortis Belize industrial projects must complete the company's HSE safety training. FBL job sites are also regularly audited to ensure all safety protocols are followed closely.
