Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry Executive Council Tours Fortis Belize Operations

Cayo District, Belize (Tuesday, July 25, 2023) – Fortis Belize ("FBL" or the "Company") welcomed the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Executive Council at FBL’s John Evans Headquarters in San Ignacio on Thursday, July 20. The group was invited to meet with executives and tour the Vaca Dam as a part of the Company's stakeholder outreach and education program and were joined on the tour by FBL President & CEO Kay Menzies and VP Finance, Corporate Secretary & CFO Betty Tam Moreno. The tour was led by Operations Manager Tedford Pate, Health, Safety & Environment Manager Albert Roches and Operations Supervisor Rogelio Guerra.

During the visit, the group talked about FBL’s role in Belize’s power industry, the generating capacity of the Company’s three hydroelectric plants, FBL’s commitment to environmental and safety management, and the critical role FBL plays in water management and flood mitigation for downstream communities. FBL’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainability was also discussed.


The Vaca Dam tour began with a safety briefing and distribution of safety gear. Then visitors were taken through every level of the power plant facility, viewing the TSV gallery, turbine floor, generator floor, motor control center, switchgear room and control room. The tour lasted approximately an hour and a half and included the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular view of the reservoir and spillway from the top of the dam structure.

The FBL stakeholder outreach program offers an inside look at the Company's hydroelectricity facilities and showcases how Fortis Belize Limited works daily to create a greener, more sustainable future for Belize.
